PAXI ANTIPAXI<\/span><\/h1><\/div><\/i>

Paxos and Antipaxos are islands of the Ionian Sea in the Ionian Sea. They are located 7 miles south of Corfu at a distance of 8 miles from the Continental Coast and administratively belong to the prefecture of Corfu. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The capital of Paxos is the picturesque Gaios which is naturally protected by two islets, Panagia and Agios Nikolaos. Other settlements of Paxos are Lakka and Loggos and the population according to the 2021 census is 2,419 inhabitants.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The symbol of the Municipality of Paxos is a trident on the right and left of which a dolphin stands, a reference to the myth of the separation of Paxos from Corfu by Poseidon with his trident.<\/span><\/p>\n

A hero of Pax is Giorgos Anemoyiannis, a conjurer and arsonist who was martyred during the liberation struggle of 1821, at the age of 23 in Nafpaktos.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Paxos and the surrounding islands of the complex are composed of limestone rocks, which often break into slabs. The coasts are rocky and the beaches that have formed are small and pebbly. Paxos is an island with many caves and sulfur springs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

MYTHOLOGY<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

According to mythology, Paxos was created when the god Poseidon struck Corfu with his trident, cutting off its southern tip and forming Paxos, to house his love with Amphitrite But he lost his trident, which the Paxinos found and they made it their emblem.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

VEGETATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>
